Fearfully & Wonderfully Made

When you are going through life and times get hard, it can make you question why you are here.

I’ve been there.

Sometimes, and maybe for a while, you make mistake after mistake, and you may feel like, “Clearly, I’m a mistake.”

I’ve been there too.

Times get hard, and mistakes happen. These times do not define us. These times do not become a part of our identity.

Do not let these times get you down or keep you down.

God, our Creator, FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made us.

Write this down, “I am FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made.”

Why write this down? Because there is power in journal writing.

Journal writing is much more than jotting down thoughts on paper. It is a form of self-expression, a self-reflection tool, a safe space for self-exploration, and a time to hear from God. When we write in a journal, we are engaging in a conversation with our inner self, uncovering layers of thoughts and feelings that often go unnoticed in the hustle of daily life and receiving guidance from God.

One of the most rewarding aspects of journal writing is the journey of self-discovery it can take us on. As we write about our lives, our dreams, and our challenges, we begin to uncover our true passions, fears, motivations, and values. This knowledge is invaluable as it guides us in making life choices that are more aligned with our calling from God.

Journal writing can be particularly beneficial during difficult times. It provides a private space to navigate complex emotions and situations. Writing about challenges helps us process and overcome them, offering new perspectives and strategies for dealing with adversity.

Now, Let’s get back to being Fearfully and Wonderfully made.

This is your WORTH!

"I am fearfully and wonderfully made" speaks volumes about your intrinsic worth. The term "fearfully" implies a sense of awe and reverence. It suggests that our creation is not a simple act of chance but a deliberate and thoughtful process (this excites me). We are uniquely blended qualities, talents, and attributes crafted with precision and care. This understanding is empowering, especially in a world where everyone is judged superficially. Realizing that we are "wonderfully made" should encourage us to embrace our individuality and cherish our differences as strengths rather than flaws.

This is our Divine DESIGN!

The phrase "your works are wonderful" directs our attention to God’s craftsmanship. Each of us is a masterpiece, reflecting the creativity and intelligence of God. This realization brings a sense of belonging and purpose. We are part of a grand design. This should build confidence and a sense of responsibility to live up to our potential.

This is our Self-Acceptance!

The first lesson that we can get from this verse is the importance of self-acceptance. We all face the challenge of living up to unrealistic standards set by society, the media, and, sometimes, our inner critic. Embracing the truth that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" encourages us to shift from self-criticism to self-appreciation. It invites us to celebrate our uniqueness and accept our physical features, talents, and imperfections as part of God’s divine tapestry. This acceptance is liberating and forms the foundation for genuine self-esteem and confidence.

This is Our Potential!

The second lesson is about recognizing and living up to our potential. Understanding that we are wonderfully made implies that each of us has something special to offer to the world. It’s an invitation to explore our talents, to pursue our passions, and to make meaningful contributions. This perspective fosters a proactive approach to life, encouraging us to set goals, take risks, and strive for excellence. It’s a call to live purposefully, with the knowledge that our lives are not accidents but intentional creations meant to make a positive impact.

Applying these lessons requires conscious effort. It involves daily affirmations of our worth from the Word, seeking positive influences, and engaging in activities that nurture our talents and passions. It also means being mindful of the narratives we tell ourselves and actively replacing negative self-talk with positive, affirming thoughts.

Negativity is not our portion.

Psalm 139:14 is not just a verse; it's a declaration of our divine origin and a testament to our unique existence. It’s a source of strength and empowerment, reminding us of our worth and our beauty given by God. Embracing self-acceptance and recognizing our potential are not just lessons from this verse; they can be pathways to a fulfilled and impactful life. As we internalize and live out these truths, we embody the essence of being fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

Psalm 139:14 serves as a beacon of hope and a source of strength. It encourages us to see ourselves through the lens of God’s craftsmanship, to appreciate our uniqueness, and to realize our potential.

It’s a call to live confidently, purposefully, and joyfully, embracing the fullness of who we are and can become.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

By Dr. Shavon Leach

In the canvas of the atmosphere, a masterpiece unfurled,

Crafted with care in this vast, swirling world.

Fearfully and wonderfully made, a phrase so true,

A reflection of the divine God, in me and in you.

With every heartbeat, a rhythm of grace,

In every feature, uniqueness we can trace.

Fearfully, for we are works of awe,

Wonderfully, in every flaw we saw.

Intricate like the stars in the night sky,

Complex as the hues of a butterfly.

Woven with wonder, knit with care,

In God’s tapestry of life, we are rare.

Our souls, bounds of light,

Fearfully, for our power to feel,

Wonderfully, for the love we reveal.

In every step, a dance of destiny,

In every voice, a unique melody.

Crafted with purpose, not by chance,

In His grand design,

we are more than a glance.

So here we stand, in God’s grand expanse,

Part of the story, part of the dance.

Fearfully and wonderfully made,

a truth so bold, in each of us,

a story to be told.
